STU GOLDBERG WRITES:

Saw your mention of my name in the Newsletter, yes, I'm the same Stu Goldberg, ain't It a small wor1d? It's a long way back to FSU [Florida State University --Ed.], how did you ever remember?

Another name in the letter which must be the same guy I knew at sixteen is Dick Lobs, from Philadelphia. He was written up in those days in Believe It or Not and various strength and health magazines for his abiliIty to do a perfect front lever while hangIng by only the index finger of each hand. Dick was a very good friend of a terrific hand and head balancer who helped me a lot, and who is now retired In Florida---Lou Karns. Funny, I used to watch Dick throwing five balls up and trying like hell to keep them up. Now it's twenty years later and I'm working on the same thing-damn, it's hard.

It is my contention that hardly anyone knows of the existence of IJA. As long as I've been around I didn't know myself, and only discovered it by accident. My idea is to let people know about IJA by asking for a little reciprocity in printing names and addresses for mutual interest of like-minded circus, juggling, acrobatic, etc. buffs.  It would serve everyone's interest and I'm sure draw a wider readership if anything can do it. Here are some of the places to write to suggest that they print your name and address and what you have to offer:

Bandwagon: the Journal of the Circus Historical Society - (Fred D. Phening, Jr., Editor)

Acrobatics Magazine  (Mr. Ralph Samuels)

The above are really good and IJA should be listed in them regularly. Also you might try to get included in the brochures put out by Ed Sparrow, THE PROP TRUNK and CIRCUS CREATIONS.

I would like to see some kind of a regularly featured item in the letter, instead of a catch - as - catch - can format, for teaching novices moves with balls and sticks and clubs, etc. Very little has been set down that I can find, on clubs, and something new each issue, how to do it, well written, would be good to have featured. A list of available books and sources for balls and clubs, etc., should be included, or it should be mentioned that a letter to the editor will bring this list.

San Francisco is lousy with jugglers now, and some are very good, though most don't perform many tough single moves, but stick to two and three man passing. It has been fun getting together with various friends, and two recent visitors were really outstanding:

Hillary Carlip and Joan Herzfeld, two 17 year old lovelies from Los Angeles, and they are really outstanding. I repeat myself, but they deserve any and all praise for their efforts and terrific results of one year's practice.
