ALBERT LUCAS SKATING/JUGGLING WITH ICE CAPADES

First reported by Jerry Greenberg who caught AI's act in Atlantic City. The Burgesses also caught the show more recently at the Nassau Coliseum on Long Island .

This "twelve-year-old" does an act that looks like a medley of tricks from the repertories of the great jugglers of our day (Francis Brunn, Rudy Cardenas, Ugo Garrido, etc.) - and he doesn't miss!   Highlight is when his tiny brother skates out to spin a ball on one hand while spinning a ring on his other arm. --H.B.

RINGLING BROS. AND BARNUM & BAILEY CIRCUS

The Barnum & Bailey, Ringling Bros. Circus was spectacular. Besides the incredibly beautiful costumes, the fantastic performances and just the traditional excitement of the circus world. We were thrilled to be with Gran Picaso and other jugglers of the circus.   We spent most of each evening there backstage showing jugglers what we had to share (including 6, 7 & 8 ball passing routines which they loved--they weren't used to ball passing) and learning from them. They were all eager to become friends and make us feel welcome and were successful in both. Some of the outstanding things shown to us were Picaso's 4 ball juggling continuously over each shoulder; the throwing of his "flying saucers" discs going from ring about 100 ft. into the air over the audience, catching them on the rebound, doing this with 2 and 3 in a hand then with them doing 4 in one hand in a circle; and of course his well known amazing 5 ball (ping pong balls) manipulation using only his mouth. Other exciting feats were Bridget and Geza Szabo passing 6 torches and Geza doing a fine club routine; the Hargitas troupe balancing on ladders passing. clubs, and current ringmaster Bob Welz (who at one time performed as a juggler) doing 6 balls - in columns for us.

[Another juggling act on this circus is the Virjoaga Family (4), one of whom is pictured on page 2. Bob Welz was a member of IJA about ten years ago. He was also once a member of the Florida State University Circus as was your current editor, as was Tommy Curtin and as is new member (this month) Orrin Lundgren.--Editor]

One night we saw IJA member Martin Gray there and other nights new members Bobby Sandler & Stephanie Leonard were with us. It was an exciting show for us all and we recommend it if it comes to town. This was the red unit, the other (blue unit) has no jugglers now so find out first.
