SHORT TAKES... Matthew
Pikin, a former member of the MIT Juggling Club, died Oct. 6, 1982 at
age 32 of leukemia. He was a reference librarian at the Copley Square
Library in Boston. His estate graciously donated his juggling
equipment to the MIT Juggling Club.
Inadvertently,
the names of the volunteer judges at the convention did not appear in
the September issue. Mary Wisser writes rightly, "they have a
tough job and sometimes are booed like baseball umpires... " In
appreciation of their work, in apology for the omission last issue,
and for the record, they were: Bill Barr, Craig Barnes, Laura Dirksen,
Holly Greeley, Mike Kass, Larry Olson, Robert Peck and Kit Summers. Gene
Jones, IJA President, made the following report of the 1982 Santa
Barbara convention: Total gross receipts, $92,402.35. Total expenses,
$88,966.78. Net profit, $4,435.57. Total registrants, 615. Public Show
attendance, (first show) 856, (second show) 475. U.S. Nationals
attendance, about 825.
Rich Chamberlin, IJA secretary/treasurer, is also co-historian with Dennis Soldati. Rich has all IJA historical material and actively seeks any of the following material: old IJA newsletters, publicity material and news clippings, and old or unique props.
Gene
Jones is looking for information on the therapeutic
uses of juggling. Interested persons should contact him. Jugglers
Anonymous has a new address: Fort Wayne, IN.
Kit Summers would appreciate contributions to his collection of juggling photos, news articles, business cards, books, movies and posters. Write San Diego, CA.
Sue
Bakalor, Sunnyvale, CA would like to
hear from other juggling memorabilia collectors so "we can notify
interested people when we find something of interest as well as
distribute extra juggling greeting cards, etc..." she wrote. |
