That's my kind of lawyer!...

By Gene Jones, IJA Director, New York, NY

JACOB STEIN, A WASHINGTON, D.C., LAWYER M.C. 'd the 112th Founders Day celebration of the George Washington Law Association in 1977. As pictured here, he climaxed the show with a juggling act.   More recently, this celebrated jurist has been in the news because of the Reagan administration's nomination of Edwin Meese as attorney general.

Stein, a 59-year-old partner in the firm of Stein, Mitchell & Mezines, has been named independent counsel in charge of the investigation of Meese's candidacy for attorney general.

A former IJA member, Stein taught himself to juggle with three oranges over a bed in 1941. He only juggles now "to show off," but fondly recalled one such special occasion, when he juggled in 1979 with Loco Motion Vaudeville in Boston's Harvard Square.

As evidenced by his selection for the sensitive position, most Washington insiders undoubtedly believe that Stein will weight the Meese case evidence fairly, and leave manipulation for his moments of off the job relaxation.
