Albert
Lucas, 1985 IJA U.S. Nationals winner, will appear in this
year's edition of "The Guinness Book of World
Records" as the juggler who broke Ignatov's five club
time of more than 16 minutes without a drop and tied
Rastelli's 10 ball record of a flash.
At
next year's convention in Atlanta, the 24-year-old Lucas plans
to break Rastelli's record by making two passes with 10 balls,
to at least tie Ignatov's 12 ring record and to set an IJA
record for seven clubs for time.
With
20 years of professional experience on which to base his
attempt, Lucas embarked on a five-month training regimen in
March to prepare to break the Guinness juggling records. He
practiced at least four hours daily, in addition to performing
two shows nightly at the Hacienda Hotel in Las Vegas. Despite
feeling rushed to make his attempts by the Guinness Book of
Worid Records deadline, he managed to set five records in
the categories of rings, balls, clubs and plates. With more
practice, he
says he can make the one he missed - a 12 ring flash.
Judge
of the event for Guinness was Gene Jones, former IJA president
and official consultant on juggling to Guinness.
From the Hacienda Hotel site, Jones reported:
1.
July 2, 1984 - Lucas flashed
10 balls at 10:10 p.m. Actually made 16 consecutive
throws.
2.
10:34 p.m. - Lucas flashed 8 plates. Managed 16
throws. caught 12.
3.
July 3 - Lucas juggled 7 balls for 2:03.48 at
2:08 p.m.
4.
2:32 p.m. - Lucas juggled 7 rings for 3:23.05.
5.
July 4, 1984 - Lucas juggled 5 clubs
for 37:10.0. This
more than doubles the previous Guinness record set by Ignatov.
