Fun sports jubilee held in city of brotherly love

by Sidney P. Ozer

The weekend of Sept. 29 and 30 was chock full of juggling in Philadelphia at the second annual Fun Skills Jubilee. Sponsored by the Philadelphia Jugglers Club in cooperation with the city's Fairmount Park Commission, the event attracted more than 100 participants.

Workshops on Friday included instruction in devil sticks by Thien Phuc and Page Wolper, in mime by Peter Shub, in cigar boxes by Rob Peck and in balloon creation by Crash the Clown and Dave Winoski. At sundown, a float led a juggling procession to the top of the steps of the Philadelphia Art Museum for juggling on the spot Rocky made famous in his movie.

That evening, Rob Peck produced a public show at the Community College of Philadelphia. As MC, Rob introduced 11 year old Todd Cohen, who juggled three clubs. Steve Athearn followed with advanced club work, and Lorenzo Caruso did four clubs and five rings. Mike Leroy balanced a breakfast tray on top of a cane perched on his nose while juggling three clubs and telling jokes.

Linda Peck used up to nine cigar boxes in presenting a Renaissance spoof on "Romeo and Juliet." Rob and Linda, performing as "Foolsproof," juggled clubs while presenting a humorous view of marital relations. The Amazing Larry Vee and numerous others contributed to the spectacle. A middle-eastern banquet and belly dancer, gave a last chance for fellowship. All events were free and public.

Jugglers from Mars land another Burlington Success

by Tom Rayburn

The 2nd Annual Burlington Festival ran on community spirit, with people chipping in to help on clean up, cooking and other chores when not juggling. On Saturday the  77 participants shared a meal prior to an exciting public show highlighted by a freefor-all juggling mele onstage. (A tradition sadly lacking from recent IJA  conventions. )

The Mayor's Council on the Arts helped, and the people of Burlington provided sleeping space for flatlanders. The host Jugglers from Mars look forward to a 3rd festival next fall.

Camping jugglers stage festival under the stars

by Alan Eisenhour

The First Camp and Juggle Jamboree was held in Bremen, Indiana, August 10-12. Activities enjoyed by the 30 participants included watching videotape of past conventions and great jugglers, late night conversations around the camp fire, night-time torch juggling, swimming and performing at a local arts festival. There were hot dogs roasted over the fire, and hours of juggling to tunes on the radio. The gathering disbanded with a pledge to do it again next summer.
