BUSINESS NOTES National Juggling Day Check
it out in the 1989 edition of "Chase's Annual Events."
Or the USA Today 1989 wall calendar. Saturday, June 17, is National
Juggling Day here in the USA. So plan to get out there and juggle!
Even better, get together with friends and fans and hold an event!
If
you need help with press releases or mailing lists, the IJA will be
glad to help through Bill Giduz (press) and Rich Chamberlin (mailing
lists and brochures). If your club or IJA affiliate is planning to
have an event, please contact Giduz so he can coordinate some national
publicity. Gatto and Ziethen Will Receive New IJA Awards In Baltimore The
IJA board voted recently to institute two new awards and present
them for the first time at this year's convention. Presentation will
take place during the Thursday
evening Individual Championships / Awards Night event.
A
new International Jugglers Association Award of Excellence will be
given this year to Anthony Gatto. The award recognizes extraordinary
achievement in the field of juggling performance. Individuals
nominated must have demonstrated ability in, and dedication to, the
art of juggling that has clearly established them as an international
leader in the field.
The
board will also present KarlHeinz Ziethen of Berlin with its first
IJA Extraordinary Service Award. This award is for living persons who
show outstanding service to the field of juggling. It is primarily
intended for those who have shown consistent commitment to promotion
of juggling. Ziethen will be recognized for his years of service to
the art as a collector, author, historian and promoter.
Gatto
will perform during the convention public show, and attempt to break
his own numbers records. Ziethen will be bringing some of his rare
juggling videos to Baltimore for presentation. The
1989 Roster is just now emerging from computer
limbo as our early March Juggler's World copy deadline
approaches. The IJA has switched from its old DEC Rainbow computer to
a new IBM, and the transition has not been an easy one. It looks now
as if we are about out of the woods and can proceed with Roster
production.
We
apologize for the delay and will get the Roster printed and mailed as
soon as possible. As you might imagine, Roster production is becoming
an increasingly bigger job. As of early March, IJA membership had
topped 3,500. .
Elections
are coming and the IJA is accepting nominations for positions
on the 1989-1990 board of directors. In order to send out a mail-in
ballot before this summer's convention, nominations for office will be
accepted until May 1. If
you would like to nominate yourself or another person, send in a
150-word statement of candidacy to secretary Rich Chamberlin before
that date. There are 11 board spots available. The final election will
take place at the convention business meeting. People who are not on
the mail ballot may still place their names in nomination at that
meeting, but they will not have the benefit of votes cast by mail. New IJA Life Members The
IJA would like to thank the following people who have signed on as
IJA Life Members since publication of the Winter issue of this
magazine:

If you're interested in becoming a Life Member, contact IJA secretary Rich Chamberlin. |
