Mikio Oshima sent a report from Tokyo on the act of Jin Yan of the Herbei Provincial Acrobatics Art Troupe of China. In his performance at the Carnival Plaza Circus Restaurant near Tokyo, Jin Yan does up to five clubs and seven rings. He also juggles on a free-standing ladder while a partner, Chan, stands on his shoulders and balances a tower of glasses on her nose!

 

Mime/mechanic David Walbridge is entertaining in Minnesota with his new vaudeville "Dr. R.E. Cycle Show," a combination of magic, juggling and information on the importance of recycling. The show includes ball juggling, plate spinning, a five scarf routine and some tray and cup manipulation. He was to premiere a solo show called "Holes in My Pockets, Stars in My Eyes" in Duluth in December that would combine vaudeville skills with story-telling.

 

Dieter Tasso was juggling at the Crazy Horse Saloon in Paris during the past few months.

 

The Big John Strong Clown Capades show is featuring Oresto juggling balls and M.C. Stephen Fisher doing devil sticks and hat manipulation.

 

Myron Wilcox is feeding the hungry in Porterville, Calif., with help from a church friend and their "Presbyterian Juggling Balls." Erma Donaldson makes the PJB's for Wilcox, who gives juggling instruction to local civic clubs and interest groups. He gives the PJB's out with each lesson and asks for a hunger fund donation in return. Wilcox and Donaldson have produced and distributed 1,466 balls in the last four years, netting $2,800 for the hunger fund.

 

Bryan Wendling, one of the handful of people who can handle two devil sticks at once, will be performing in a wide­ranging school tour from early January through the end of May. The show includes five club tricks, seven balls, lariat twirling and plate spinning.

 

Despite a disappointing second half of 1989, Bounce and 0oo La La are planning a successful 1990 as they prepare to take their show on the road. They are currently working on another children's show to aim at the children's theatre market and schools. According to Bounce, more and a more schools and children's show venues are looking for routines with a message, so he and Mademoiselle 0oo La La are building their new show around a story line. While they work on the new show, the tandem is keeping busy with corporate shows, and the occasional street performance. The couple spent the winter months in Florida, finishing up work on their new house.

 

Michael Menes is spending most of January and February in the studio developing new material, thanks to a fellowship from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts. He also continues to produce the Vaudeville Cabaret in Watchung, N.J., the last Saturday of each month. Menes and convention public show partner Jeff Mason are currently working on a duet act for possible overseas performances.

 

Things continue to go well for Doubble Troubble, Nick and Alex Karvounis. The twins have been performing at elementary schools in the Baltimore area, and performed four shows in August at the Unity House Resort in Pennsylvania's

Pocono mountains. In their Pocono shows, the duo played for a nightly audience of about 1,000. Back in Baltimore, the team juggled in two scenes of the Baltimore Opera's production of Faust. They are currently working on solo routines and more musical passing shows, and say that they may travel to Japan for Expo '90.

 

Daniel Rosen recently taped shows for "Comedy Express" and "Evening at the Improv" which will appear on television stations across the country. He also juggled for several regional commercials, and continues to appear on "Head of the Class." Rosen performed at Bally's in Las Vegas in December, and opened the year with shows at the Comedy Zone in Durham, N.C., and at the Improv in Chicago.

 

Bob Berkey, Mark Keppel, Tom Murphy and Katherine Kramer will be conducting The Performance Workshop at Wintergreen Resort in Virginia from June 8 - July 8. Classes in clowning, improv, juggling, gymnastics and physical comedy are planned, with Katherine Kramer teach tap and ballroom dance. The cost for the  three week session is $650.
