Nominations Due For IJA Board Candidates

IJA members wishing to run for one of the 11 spots on the Board of Directors must send in a self-nomination form by February 15 in order for their name to appear as a candidate on the mail-in ballot. That ballot will be mailed out with the convention registration form in late March.

Persons who do not get a nomination form in by that time may stiII register their candidacy at the convention, but wiIl lose the benefit of the absentee ballots sent in by people who don't attend the convention.

Send in your nomination along with a statement of no more than 100 words to Rich Chamberlin, IJA Chairman, at Kenmore, NY. For more information, call him.

The IJA plans to print a 1991 juggling calendar, and needs your help gathering good photos. Send black and white, high quality photos of yourself or other jugglers to Ginny Rose at Buffalo, NY. Deadline to receive material wiII be April 1.

Back In The Fold

Enclosed please find my check to enroll me as a member of your swell association. I had intended to merely renew, since I had once been a member in around 195253, but that wouldn't be fair! Goodness, that was more than 35 years ago when, as a teen, I hung around in Vin Carey's magic shop here in Baltimore. Vin, a.k.a. Fino the Clown, was no mediocre juggler, and he had a large bulbous nose that, I swear, was larger than that of W.C. Fields'.

In any event, I was unable to avoid your great convention here in Baltimore and I bought some clubs and bean bags there, and have picked up where I left off a third of a century ago. It was so great to see so very many young and talented jugglers there. Back in 1952 only a handful existed in Baltimore. Now each week 25-30 great jugglers get together and work out. I find juggling to be far better exercise than jogging or stationary bike riding. And, it's much more fun of course.

I'll try not to let my membership lapse over the next 35 years!

Offended in Brooklyn

I have been juggling for about three years, and been an IJA member for almost two. I express my gratitude for this fine publication that encourages, supports and, most importantly, helps its readers to grow in the art of juggling.

I am an avid reader of Jugglers World, and I always look forward to the next issue. This magazine is put together well, and reflects the dignity (and the humor!) of the IJA quite nicely.

However, upon receiving the Fall 1989 issue, I was disappointed (not to mention offended) that the cartoon on page 10 was allowed to be printed as it appears.

When I first saw the cartoon page, I thought that this was going to be funny and, indeed, I entered into the reading of it in a favorable frame of mind. To begin with, the language of the cartoon did not befit a publication such as this one. Not at all. Secondly, two references of a sexually explicit nature were included. Box number eight was in poor taste, but number four was entirely inappropriate, not to mention unsavory!

As an IJA member, and a fellow juggler, I must air this complaint. Juggler's World should be a family magazine, one that all age groups can enjoy and read. We should be learning technique, style and enjoyment about our art and hobby, not foul language and locker room witticism!

This is not meant to be a self-righteous sermon, but rather a request that this fine magazine not lower its high standards to that of a tabloid.
