Street performers can get help with their scheduling from the
twiceannual Street Artists' Guild Newsletter. In it, editor Stephen
Baird tracks court cases pertinent to street performing and
includes a long list of the street performing legal situation in
many cities in the US, Canada and Europe. To join the Folk Arts
Network and receive the newsletter, send a $25 check made out to
that organization to Baird at Cambridge, MA. For
newsletters only, the fee is $10 per year. Outside the US, send $15
cash or a postal money order in US funds.

IJA member and unicycle specialist John Foss was one of the
first two Americans ever to perform in the All-Soviet Amateur Circus
Festival. Foss and Greg Milstein participated by special invitation
of Soyuzgoscirk and Rigas Cirks at the festival in Latvia in late
February. Milstein performed as a clown / eccentric character in an
act called "Balloon Jazz." Foss performed for three
minutes on a single unicycle, demonstrating the skills that won him
first place in the 1987 World Unicycling Championships in Tokyo.
They also presented official greetings, documents, gifts and an
American flag to their Latvian hosts. Their appearance was so
successful they were invited to work a regular performance with the
Rigas Cirks. Their appearance was arranged by the National Circus
Project, a Westbury, N.Y.-based organization they both serve as
senior instructors. National Circus Project teaches circus skills,
including juggling, to school children. *
Alexander Feldman did a couple of two-week engagements in
Auckland, New Zealand,
during a three month period early in the year, performing his jester
act at the Oriental Market. He will also be seen on New Zealand
television through the rest of this year, urging parents to teach
their kids about recycling. The public service announcement
features Feldman and 10-year-old IJA member Ryan Hoffman
juggling paper, metal and plastic trash. *
In Wichita, Kansas, chiropractor IngoIf Mork uses juggling
techniques in teaching reading to dyslexic children and adults. The
79-year-old said, "Over 2,500 kids in three years and working
in three prisons, we are having tremendous success. We are ready to
show our special approach to other jugglers." If you're
interested, contact Mork at Wichita, KS. * A new theme park opening this fall in the Tokyo, Japan, area is looking for performers. If you 're interested, send promo material and/or a videotape. Videotapes will be returned if you so request. Contact: Michael Naishtut; c/o Toho Entertainment; Tokyo, Japan.
