JOGGLING RACES

by Mike Hout (1996 Director - Larry Kluger)

Albert Lucas showed that he has not lost anything over the years as he won four gold medals at the 1996 World Championships of Joggling.

Other standouts included Barry Goldmeier, who ran an exceptional 5 kilometers with five balls in 27:53.1 to eclipse Billy Gillen's Guinness record of 28:11. Andy Swan lost 40 pounds since last year's meet and showed off his new-found 45 year-old form by winning the master's 100, placing second in the open 100, getting second in the open 400, and even getting third in the 5 kilometers! His 400 time was a new masters record. Reese Edwards, just 16, won the 5 kilometer race over Keith Baker, who set a new masters record in the process.

For the women, Meghan Cain ran an outstanding 400 to set a new juniors record. Marion Caldwell learned how to joggle for the first time at the joggling workshop on Wednesday, and three days later she won the gold medal in the women's mile!

The junior mile relay teams staged an epic battle, with every team running under the old record. "The Unaffiliates" came out on top and even challenged the winning men's team during the race. Ben Schoenberg moved into second place on the all-time list of 100 meters with 5 balls, just nosing out Mike Hout, who set a masters record in second place.

Laura Green stunned the crowd by winning her fourth 100 meter race, and thus became the oldest person to ever win an open 100 meter joggling race! And Sam Kilbourn proved that turning 50 does not keep one from joggling. He not only obliterated the over 50 record in the 100 meters, but he also set the over 50 record in the 400 and won a gold medal as part of the winning mile telay team.

It was another great day of joggling and we all look forward to the 1997 Championships in Pittsburgh!

NUMBERS

(1996 Director - Ben Schoenberg)

Two lJA numbers records were set during the championships this year. Albert Lucas set an individual ring record, making 20 catches with 10. The record was particularly dramatic, as he caught the first 19 and had to fall forward into a somersault to make the final catch.

The record fell twice in trio club passing. Jeff Kasper, Jason LeMay and Mick Lunzer (The Dew Drop Jugglers) set the record first at 300 catches with 12, but that was bested shortly thereafter by David Cain and Scott Cain and Jack Kalvan, who did 132 catches with 13.

The full results are below. The numbers in parentheses following the names represent the number of catches and the number of objects, ie. (22 w 8) means 22 catches with 8 objects. Asterisks represent a new lJA record.
