Are you ready for the glitter city?!

IJA's 37th Annual Convention

appropriately set in Las Vegas, the city that never sleeps

REGISTRATIONS FOR THIS YEAR'S 37th Annual Convention are pouring in. Everyone's too busy to sleep much at IJA gatherings, so this year's site - Las Vegas - seems perfect.

Arrangements have been made with the Showboat Hotel so that you may stay as many days as you wish before or after the convention at the same convention rates. Although the convention does not officially begin until Tuesday, July 17, the juggling room will be open on Sunday, July 15 for early arrivals.

We have blocked out 300 rooms for IJA use. More will be made available if needed. However, as of June 12, all rooms not covered by a registration deposit will be opened to the public.

The convention price is again very reasonable, with your total expenses at less than $200. We also have instituted a family plan for registration to help save a little money for families with three or more members. Ask about it when you register.

Since we are dealing with a hotel, registration procedures at the convention will differ from the past few conventions. First, you will register with the hotel upon your arrival, and pay the balance of your room bill at the desk. (If you'd like to arrive before or stay after the convention, call the hotel directly about those nights and you should receive the convention room rate.)

Next, you'll register with the IJA to pay the balance of your fees and obtain your meal books (for those choosing the fiveday plan) and tickets to events.

For those members who fly into Las Vegas, the Showboat provides a free limousine service between the airport and the hotel once every hour.

The following schedule should answer many of your questions about the convention. If you have further questions, call convention chairman Rich Chamberlin.

Performers sought for Public Show

In order to facilitate the production of this year's Public Show, we are asking those of you interested in performing to please let us know in advance. This is not a requirement for participation, just a courtesy to help us prepare.

This year's Public Show will feature talent from within the IJA. No headliners, no paychecks, just a chance to do your stuff for the public and your friends. Accordingly, the basic requirement for participation is IJA membership. That's all. If you want to participate, send us a letter, a press kit, or anything else to let us know of your interest.

The final lineup for the show will be decided by Rodger French, IJA affiliate coordinator and 1985 convention chairman, with the able assistance of Kit Summers, IJA director. Please send your correspondence to: Rodger French, Decatur, Georgia.

ReJean St. Jules, Vegas star to watch!

By age 8, Rejean St. Jules was learning to juggle. Born in a circus family, he was fascinated from the start. He recalled an early juggling experience... "I missed one of the balls once and it rolled over near the elephants and one ate it! I was very upset since I only had two left. But, I smiled again when the elephant trainer returned it to me all washed and clean the next day so I could continue with my juggling practice."

Through the years, St. Jules became very adept at it. Today at the Circus Circus Hotel/Casino in Las Vegas he juggles eight rings, five clubs, torches, and five balls off a drum head. Now he's working on bounce juggling seven!

Modestly, he calls himself, "the fastest juggler in the world." He said, "Though many may claim the title, you won't ever see a juggler move his feet as fast as I do during my performance. They move about 30 miles per hour!"

In addition to his juggling skills, St. Jules has done modeling, is an adept roller skater, snow skis, walks the high wire, and knows kung fu and jujitsu.

He also rides unicycle and works on the trampoline and teeter board. He even designs and makes his own costumes! Besides all this, he is a champion high diver, and was captain of his Montreal ice hockey team!
