* Edward Jackman was on Evening at the Improv in late August. He skillfully beat out precise "traditional Chinese rhythms" on his devil stick, "taught" a ball to jump through a hoop, and passed clubs with members of the audience.

* Joggler extraordinaire Albert Lucas joggled to a seventh place finish in the Ft. Lauderdale Walk America 20-kilometer race last summer in a time of 1:18. He then went to the Dade County Youth Fair and did five shows that same day! Lucas and Tommy Curtin were alternating juggling performances this past season at Busch Gardens in Florida.

* The second annual Davidson College freshman juggling survey, conducted by Bill Giduz, showed that a slightly higher percentage of entering freshmen could juggle this year than last. As part of their freshman checkin, Giduz polled 333 freshmen on whether or not they could juggle, and asked those who said they could juggle to prove it with the three bean bags on his table. 32% of the 169 male freshmen juggled and 9% of the 164 women, for a total of 21 % of the entering class. Last year's totals were 27% for men, 9% for women and 18% overall.

Marc La Chance invites your contributions to Circus Ethiopia, a venture he's founded in that African country to give some children a chance for a life they never dreamed possible. La Chance, a sixth grade teacher at a wealthy private school in Addis Ababba, spends his time away from the classroom training children from a refugee camp in circus skills. Since last December, the 27 young people, aged 8-21, have presented about three dozen 90-minute shows around the city - including one to a crowd of 30,000 people. The youngsters perform juggling, tightrope walking, gymnastics and acrobatics, including an 11-person pyramid topped by a lone juggler. The circus has secured recognition from the Ministry of Culture and Sports, giving it tax-free status, and it is supported by private donations and the Swedish Save the Children organization. For more information, write La Chance at Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. All donors will receive a copy of the Circus Ethiopia Video, showing one of the group's performances.
