FESTIVALS

 

If you're planning a festival, send information to Juggler's World as far enough ahead of time as possible so that other jugglers can plan their travels. Next issue copy deadline is August 15 for the time period October 1993 through January 1994.

 

August 28,

South Bass Island, Ohio

The fifth annual Club J.J. Jest Fest will occur in De Rivera Park in downtown Put-In-Bay on South Bass Island, just off the north shore of Ohio in Lake Erie. Juggling will continue from 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. on Saturday, but the partying will go on all weekend so plan on camping out. The festival is free, but the ferry ride to the island is $7 round trip. September 1-5, Leeds, England

The 16th European Juggling Convention will be at Leeds Metropolitan University in Leeds, England, September 1-5. Organizers are planning for the largest juggling festival ever in the world, hoping for 3,000 people to attend. There will be three nights of public shows at The Grand Theatre, featuring members of The Peking Opera (who will also give workshops). Registration will be about $25 if mailed in by August 1, on-site rooms with breakfast will be about $22 a night, and camping is free. Those planning to attend the convention may want to investigate several juggling workshops at The Circus Space in London being planned just before and following the convention. Instructors include Kit Summers, Todd Strong, China's premier Diabolo teacher, Li Zhen, and Sean Gandini and Kati Yla-Hokkala. For more information contact The Circus Space; London.

Sept. 24-26, Charlotte, North Carolina

The Charlotte Jugglers Association sponsors the Fifth Annual Hurricane Hugo Flying Objects Juggling Festival at the Tuckaseegee Gymnasium on Tuckaseegee Road. Games, shows and the Hurricane Challenge are featured events. Contact Martin Beam; Charlotte NC.

 

October 1-3, Blaine, Minnesota

Juggling Jamboree '93 will be held at the National Sports Center in Blaine. Welcome is Friday evening from 7-9 p.m., with juggling all day Saturday, and Sunday noon-5 p.m. Saturday night show as well, with The Dew Drop Jugglers as special guests. Dorm rooms available. Call for more information.

 

October 2-3, Philadelphia, PA

The "There Have Been So Many, I Can't Recall Which Annual Philadelphia Convention" will take place in the large gym at Memorial Hall in historic Fairmount Park. For the past... whole bunch of years... jugglers have congregated in Philadelphia for this fall classic. A new location and oodles of fun. Open juggling and workshops will take place between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday, with a public show Saturday night. October 2-3, Bloomington, Indiana

Bloomington Juggle Fest Extravagenza. Unicycles, combat, passing and even site swaps are rather grudgingly welcome. Free registration, raffle, prize for the furthest drive, and the now-famous annual bat­tle between I.U. and Purdue for the coveted Foamin' Bucket Combat Trophy. October 8-10, Lodi, California

October 22-24, Eau Claire, Wisconsin

The High and Mighty Jugglers of Eau Claire will be hosting a free-registration festival. It includes a Friday night performance by Mark Nizer, tons of space for unicycling and unicycle games plus Combat, Combat, and more Combat. Lodging and parking - no problem! January 2-7, 1994 Las Vegas, Nevada

The IJA hosts its second Las Vegas Winter Minifestival at the Showboat Hotel / Casino. Contact Ginny Rose; Montague MA.

 

September 3-5, Purdue (West Lafayette), Indiana

Join the Purdue University Juggling Club for their Sixth annual Fall Juggling Festival in the vast Purdue Armory. Once again to be held on the Saturday and Sunday of Labor Day Weekend, there will also be juggling on Friday from 5-10 pm. Contact Phillip SanMiguel; West Lafayette, IN

 

September 10-12, Catalina Island, California

The Orange Jugglers sponsor the Seventh Annual Catalina Juggler's Jam at Two Harbors on this idyllic island. It's a camping, juggling fun thing. $20 pre­registration before August 1 includes camping fees, firewood lanterns and munchies. Tent cabins and a lodge are also available. March 18-20, Chapel Hill, North Carolina
