'96 Board of Director Nominees

Laura Green - Los Angeles, California

Juggling is my joy and profession, the IJA my family. Since 19791 have served the IJA as Art Director, Convention Chair, Board Member, Renegade, and Teacher. I would welcome the opportunity to serve you again, bringing change and new solutions to better our Juggler's community. I offer creativity, leadership, insight, and love. And a sense of fashion!

Jack Kalvan - Los Angeles, Calif.

As a professional juggler, I have dedicated my life to sharing my love for the art. I have attended the last 12 IJA festivals, 3 European Juggling Association conventions, and more regional festivals than I can count. In my travels, and now through the Internet, I have met thousands of jugglers around the world. I have my finger on the pulse of the juggling community. I would like to help direct the IJA to satisfy your needs and the needs of jugglers around the world.

Sam Kilbourn - South Portland, Maine

I first joined the IJA in my late 70's - I mean the late 70s. Now I'm older. Anyway, I've enjoyed hosting IJA shows (Montreal) and awards (Vegas) and helping the IJA board with legal stuff. I believe in tossing things up in the air and catching some of them; that balancing on one arm at a time leaves one hand free for scratching; that "nuf' spelled backwards is fun, so why worry about which way it's spelled; that gravity is actually our friend because without it we would be contributing to air pollution and with it we save on the cost of props since they keep coming back; that in the end we all drop - so keep juggling until you've had nuf. I'd be happy to serve on the board and if you'd like me to, please clip and mail your vote.

Bud Markowitz - Los Angeles, Calif.

Just finishing my first, and hopefully not my last, term on the Board of Directors. I've accomplished a few things.

a) At Las Vegas I saw to it that 40 underprivileged children were able to attend the public show. I handled this through the local Shriner's Hospital. The tickets were paid for with donations from my personal friends. Plans are now in the works to enlarge this program at Rapid City.

b) Some of you are wearing my "Mickey Mouse Juggling Ties."

c) I helped arrange prize money for the championships.

d) I thoroughly enjoy juggling and I only wish I had started juggling when I was young. I might have been able to do five balls or more by now.

e) Having spent 30 years in the manufacturing business I believe I know how to apply good business tactics to our organization.

Perry Rubenfeld - Winnepeg, Manitoba

Eight years ago at the Denver festival, I was elected to the Board of Directors of the lJA. For the past five years the board has elected me to serve as their chairman. It is not a job I take lightly. I have seen many changes in the IJA over the past eight years. As a director of the IJA, it is our collective job to make decisions that we believe are in the best interest of the organization and its members. These decisions are not always popular with certain members, however, being on the board should not be a popularity contest for short term approval. I know and believe in my heart that in every decision I and the Board of Directors have made, our common collective goal has been and will always be to do what is best for the IJA as a whole.

Being elected to the board should be based on productivity and commitment and a passion to the organization. I hope you believe that I have demonstrated these qualities and will continue to support me.

Steven Salberg - Denville, N.J.

I have been running the video directorship for a few years now and have steadily molded it into a modem, fast paced forum through which people can relive or experience for the first time the thrills and excitement of each years festival. Just wait 'til you see what we do for our 50th anniversary production!

Walter Szeezil - Wildwood, III.

The IJA has one thing in common with all other organizations, the membership either increases or it decreases. It will not stay the size it is. I want the IJA to grow. Each year there are thousands of new jugglers, IJA members probably train 10,000 new jugglers annually. I want these new jugglers in the IJA. We should encourage and welcome all jugglers into the IJA. The professional, the hobbyist, the comic and the technical juggler should all be actively recruited by us.

I would like to see the lJA have a major event every three months across the U.S., and a major event every other year outside the country. Let's get GROWING. I have 30 years of successful business experience and I want to help us grow.
