"I'll bet you didn't know that..." Charles De Gaulle, the Premier of France, was a juggler and circus clown for a short period of time during his youth. Larry Weeks (IJA Newsletter, September 1961)

"George W. Rowland Award" of $50 is given to the IJA member who best promotes the IJA during July 1962-June 1963. Winner will be selected by the attendees at the 1963 Convention in Wickford, R.I. (IJA Newsletter, August 1962)

Francis Brunn is currently in Vegas making $1750 weekly - a fantastic figure for a juggler. He goes to a date in England for which he will be paid the highest salary ever paid there to any variety artist. After that he will ink with the UFA film studios of Berlin to double for the star in a movie on the life of Rastelli. (IJA Newsletter, March 1963)

Or is juggling an art? Is it a lively art representing speed and youth? Or is it a dying art performed and practiced by only a few, best remembered in the past? Everybody at one time or another sees something artistic in a juggling performance, if only for a split second. You wish for a photographic mind to capture its beauty, or to catch it with a camera for other people's enjoyment. But it is gone too swiftly, sometimes in a twinkling. So then is the juggler an artist - who creates a picture in motion or balance?

We know its past and present. What about its future? Will a juggler toss up twice as many props on the moon with its lesser gravity? Might juggling be a recreational escape in a too-perfect world of push-buttons and robots? Or will juggling become almost extinct, preserved only in a museum or collection? Studley Foster (IJA Newsletter, April 1963)

From Bobby May to John Strong: "I'm still doing the headstand bouncing the three balls. I gave up doing the five balls upside down as when you have to do four or five shows in the theaters it means too much practicing, and standing on your head eight or ten times a day gets a bit tiring."   (IJA Newsletter, August 1963)

Letter to Mrs. Dunham: Harry Lind kindly sent me an application blank for the IJA which I have completed. I am the son of Massilmiliano Truzzi whom you might know. I am not a professional juggler although I do juggle quite well (but nothing remotely dear my father's skill). I am a sociologist working on my Ph.D. at Cornell University. I am currently engaged in writing a history and manual of juggling, and would appreciate any help you or your organization might be able to give me. I believe the IJA published a mimeographed on juggling some years ago. Is this still available? I would also like to have a later chapter in my book discuss the IJA and its activities. Any help or suggestions will be appreciated. Hoping to meet you and other members at the next convention. Marcello Truni (IJA Newsletter, October 1963)

Violetta and Alexander Kiss open passing six sticks between them, and then Alexander juggles the six sticks himself. Then he does a routine with five sticks. At one point he flashed eight rings while balancing on a rola bola... and if memory serves me correctly they were balanced head to head while she twirled a long pole with fire on each end on her feet while he juggled three or four torches.  (IJA Newsletter, October 1963)
