PLANS SET Convention
Chairman John Burke received no response to inquiries to Las Vegas
Convention Bureau and he dropped from consideration Disneyland. Early in
April, I discussed the situation with John and President Ken Benge by
telephone. We further eliminated the reuse of the Los Angeles
area. I requested and received permission to organize the
Convention in the Hartford, Conn. area. John
Burke and I will collaborate on setting the schedule of events, the fee
structure and the scheduling of the Championships. I am working with the
Greater Hartford Convention Bureau in lining up the charity show and
public show. Jerry Greenberg of Brooklyn, N.Y. will be Show Director and
will put together the acts for these two shows plus the banquet show. A
buffet banquet for Monday evening is all planned. Arrangements
are being made for judges and other personnel to help with the
Championships. Experienced jugglers who are planning to attend the
Convention but not competing in the Championships please contact me. The
Rocky Hill Howard Johnson Motor Lodge has several features which make it
exceptionally suitable for our purposes: 1.
Easy access. It is right on the main freeway. Bradley International
Airport is only about 15 miles away. The site is 125 miles north of New
York City and about the same distance south of Boston. 2.
Excellent facilities. The main feature of the establishment is a
large, well lighted, high ceilinged, air conditioned meeting room which
will be the hub of our activities. There are also large grassy areas
surrounding the swimming pool that are good for juggling and completely
secluded from the public. 3.
Excellent outside facilities. There is a Howard Johnson Restaurant next
door, plus several other restaurants and full shopping facilities within
a radius of a quarter mile. Complete
details of Convention activities and arrangements will be in the April
