'Sooner'
state affiliate joins IJA early
By
Bill Williams Oklahoma City, OK
The
Oklahoma Jugglers are 14 members of a new IJA affiliate who keep busy
offering frequent performances and lessons for beginners.
Formed
by six Oklahomans who met and juggled together for the first time
during the recent IJA convention in Santa Barbara, the new chapter
meets Tuesdays from 7-8:30 p.m. in the Sellers Recreation Center at
830 I S. Villa in Oklahoma City.
Since
July, the Oklahoma Jugglers have displayed their talents at arts
festivals and parades all over central Oklahoma. Next spring, they
will perform at the University of Oklahoma's Medieval Fair, and will
entertain fans this winter at several O.U. basketball games.
The
group accepts donations for performances and charges fees for lessons.
Proceeds will help Oklahoma Jugglers attend the next IJA convention in
New York. Versatility is perhaps the greatest strength of the Oklahoma
Jugglers. Its members specialize in juggling clubs and boxes, balancing
routines, and four ball juggling. Two members are accomplished five
ball jugglers.
Eight
members are on the performing team, which has worked up a 30-minute
presentation featuring the individual tricks and passing routines.
The
president is Karen Phariss and Paul Phariss is vice president. Bill
Williams is secretary treasurer, and Jim Reikowsky and Jim Daniels are
honorary directors. The
group has designed the accompanying logo and printed t-shirts for
members. A large banner currently is being constructed to display at
performances and conventions. |
