I IJA
MAILBOX I
attended my first IJA convention in 1974, the same year I began working
professionally as an entertainer. During the past seven years I have
seen the convention attendance grow from a mere 50 jugglers to the 800
manipulators who attended in 1982. I have also noticed that at the last
few conventions, various television programs have shown interest, but to
this date, I have yet to see a comprehensive program produced about
juggling.
It
struck me that when this juggling special does occur it should originate
with the IJA. So, I have begun work on a special that will insure this
happens. I have written a script including many IJA members as well as a
presentation of the origins of many forms of manipulation. The script
has been registered with the writers guild and received much positive
response from several producers.
I
have begun preliminary footwork: hiring a camera crew for Purchase and
encouraging the attendance of particular manipulators. I need the
not-50-basic jugglers as well as gun slingers, yo-yo players, rope
spinners, frisbee freestylers, and whip-crackers to name a few.
I
also need your cooperation in this. If you have any juggling
specialties, I'd be interested in hearing about them. Unfortunately, I
have
I'm
interested in your input and ideas. Please write or call me.

(tm) Products wishes to thank everybody who wrote asking for information
on our props. However, due to last year's flood and moving the offices
and workshop, many delays have been encountered in trying to print new
stationery, catalogues, etc.
We
are a co-sponsor of the Jugglers Anonymous St. Fred's Juggling Festival
and have been very busy on that project, plus development of several new
products. When the festival is over and the artists and photographers
are done, the new catalogue will be printed and shipped to all of you.
Thanks! Charlie

I
am writing as a relative novice, but I've made a juggling discovery
already. After
I'm
an unenviable southpaw, and quite predictable on the court. With the ball
in my hands, I'd simply fake to the right and drive left. Of course, that
was before I spent a winter working on four ball juggling with an emphasis
on two in one hand.
The
following June when I got involved in my first one-on-one contest, my
usual opponent and I had quite a surprise. When I brought the ball in
bounds, I went to my classic right fake, but before I knew it, I had blown
by him on the right. When I realized what I'd done, I stopped in
amazement. That gave him time to cover me, so I had to take a right-handed
hook over him. Would you believe, nothing but net! I can't buy that shot
with my left hand!
