NOTES, continued

In the European circus spotlight in March, Miss Nives and the Gemino Duo,

were performing with Circus Krone. Miss Nives did a difficult cup and saucer routine, tossing five cups and saucers up to her head with her foot while balancing on a freestanding ladder. She completed the stack with a teaspoon.

Jack Swersie is happy to have made his first appearance in Las Vegas. He did his comedy juggling act at "Catch A Rising Star" May 30-June 5.

The Philippine Pride Jugglers entertained 6,000 college and university basketball coaches at a party during the NCAA's Final Four basketball tournament in Seattle on April 1. The group also broke its 1987-88 school year record of 165 perfonnances by doing more than 180 school performances in Washington and Oregon during the school year just ended.

Other performers recently in Japan were Michiel Hesseling and Jean-Michel Pare, who performed as The Flying Dutchmen. They reported hats so good that some days they were inspired to do ten shows per day! They traveled to Canada in June to perform at festivals there for the summer.

Luciano & Giovanni Anastasini, the Anastasini Bros., juggled and performed a risley act with the Herriott Circus in February in Bradenton, Fla. The Osorio Bros. were juggling and doing a high wire with the George Coronas Circus in West Palm Beach, Fla.

Francis Brunn and Nathalie Enterline spent some time in New York early this year before heading for an engagement until mid-June at the Tigerpalast in Frankfort, Germany. Brunn played there once before, and was very encouraged by the format and success of the new high class variety club. He was looking forward to performing in Frankfort for the first time to a new musical score. He had found the perfect flamenco piece to match his style in New York after a long search, and planned to perform to it with a guitar player.

The pride of New Mexico, Barnaby, has been spending a lot of time juggling on the high seas. His latest engagement is on a Crown Odyssey Cruise to Russia and Scandinavia. On one of his recent cruises, he ran into fellow IJA

member Bob Curtis of New York, who was playing saxophone in the shipboard band. Barnaby says he's "always working on one more ball," but some of his most memorable work includes some seldomseen tricks. He juggles and strums the guitar simultaneously, and does "break stick" juggling using one ball and two sticks in combinations. He is also one of very few jugglers performing Bobby May's cigarette trick. In that risky move, Barnaby tosses a cigarette behind his back and catches it in his mouth. He then lights a match, tosses it behind his back and catches it next to the cigarette to light it. He says he learned the trick "very carefully."

Though she's no longer performing, Lotte Brunn still spends a lot of time with jugglers. Last year she was invited to Ringling Clown College. where she coached jugglers and put together a graduation routine for 10 jugglers. One of her pupils was Ryder Schwartz, who placed second in the 1989 IJA Individual Championships. Lotte reports that her son, Michael Chirrick, has been juggling on a cruise ship based in Hong Kong since Thanksgiving. His engagement lasts through August.

Mark Nizer juggled on MTV's Big Show program in June, and will be juggling on the Royal Viking cruise line tour of The Soviet Union and Poland July 20-Aug. 15.
