· The 1991 Crate and Barrel August Sale catalog includes a page 5 photo of wooden Indian clubs artfuIly arranged among wooden stools. The company is selling the stools, not the clubs.

 

· Michael Moschen was on the Jerry Lewis Telethon, and on the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson. He began the Tonight Show with six ball palm rolling, and reduced it sequentially down to one. The other routine was three balls bounced around inside his eight-foot triangle. He wiIl appear at Boston's Majestic Theatre April 30 and May 1 and 2.

 

· The judges in the 1991 Mr. Nude International U.S. competition noticed Adam Reid's juggling most of all. Appearing in his first such contest last summer, the Southern California juggler and naturalist won over six other contestants with a performance of one to seven baIls, clubs, torches and machetes. He was also named Mr. Congeniality, Mr. Personality and Mr. Cooperation. Reid, 30, runs the juggler's school at both the northern and southern California Renaissance Pleasure Faires. He is also spending this year as the spokesperson for social nudism, emphasizing it as a family oriented activity.

 

· Ted Haeger invites all winter visitors to Crater Lake National Park in southern Oregon to stop by the Visitor's Center and pass clubs with him for a while. The deep snow is constantly plowed from the roads and the scenery and cross­country skiing are great, he said.

 

· The Sullivan Show is still looking for a few jugglers to work out agreements to rebroadcast their acts on the revival of that show. Those still sought are: Bernard Lee, Rodriquez, The Carats, Valente & Valente, Leo Bassi, Ernest Montego, The Martin Brothers, Del Reyes, The Four Williams and Bobby Winters. · Jack Swersie toured with the Perry Como Holiday show this season, appearing through­out the Midwest... Markus Marconi has been learning mime, mask, yoga, dance, foice, music and acrobatics at the Commedia del'Arte iri Blue Lake, Calif... Jeff Raz; formerly of Vaudeville Nouveau, and Cindy Marvell juggled with the Pickle Family Circus's holiday show in San Francisco this season.

 

· Robert Nelson was People's Choice winner at the Cornerbrook Festival in Cornerbrook, Newfoundland. He reported that Waldo worked the fringe of the festival, along with Woodhead (Mark Keppel). Those two are reportedly going to get back together with Whitlow (Ron Labbe) for at least six months per year of trio performances. Nelson says he's co-authoring a book on street performing with Todd Strong, and that the two are looking for how-to information, as well as human interest "stories from the street." · David Naylor and Craig Douglas did six "juggling" videos for the Heart and Stroke Foundation in London, Ontario. The series of "Heart-to­Heart" videos are intended to help heart and stroke patients recover by drawing analogies between learning to juggle and learning to make changes in your lifestyle.

 

· The National Circus Project, a Long Island­based arts-in-education organization, is looking for responsible, energetic and personable performer/instructors to work full-time in its touring school circus education programs. Instructors work in pairs, presenting assembly performances and teaching juggling and other basic circus skills to students grades K-12 in public schools mostly in New England. · Winner of the Halifax Buskerfest this year was Randy Bums, who does a silent mechanical man act. Jugglers performing included Ken Zemach, from Boston, who presents The Bucky Charles Show, including five torches and a flam­ing eight foot unicycle. The Tri Jesters were back, with 14-year-old Dana now doing five torches, seven balls and an eight foot unicycle.  He rode the unicycle

and passed with Kyla and Alexis as they stood on stilts.

 

Raoul Danger from Winnipeg, billed as The Industrial Strength Clown, does a comic act that includes a whack in the head with a two-by-four from an audience volunteer for every juggling drop. Local juggler Don Eastabrook presented some cutting edge performance with diabolo and fire devil stick in his first season as a busker. He won the best solo prize in the Pictou Lobster Festival earlier in the summer. Las Piranhas was performing, telling the audience they had just quit jobs as a Phillipino shoe salesman and fast food vendor on the German autobahn. The Checkerboard Guy, David Aiken, juggled in his low-key comic style on unsupported ladder and a slackrope supported by audience volunteers.

 

· Sanwa Bank of California is using a big photo of Enrico Rastelli balancing balls in illustrating its latest ad campaign. "How Hard Is Your Balance Working For You?" the ad asks, implying that none could balance as well as the late master juggler and this particular financial institution.

 

· The Raspyni Brothers, Dan Holzman and Barry Friedman, appeared on television episodes of Evening at the Improv and Candid Camera this fall. Their Candid Camera routine involved a skit where they posed as strangers to each other and a third party, and unloaded a truck full of balls at a sports chalet. When they began throwing the balls to each other, the unsuspecting shill got involved, then was blamed for the monkey­business when the boss appeared. The Raspynis report it's been a good television year, with appearances on about eight network shows. HoIzman is also working hard on a golf manipulation routine with an eye toward opening a new market for his talents.

 

· Sugra Morley beat the rap in court after being arrested for juggling in a public fountain in Queen Elizabeth Square in Auckland, New Zealand. He was charged with disorderly conduct, but the judge threw out the charge after reading the prosecution summary, saying it was a waste of taxpayer money. Morley was prepared to plead that juggling five balls required a great deal or order and could not possibly be disorderly. Morley, 41, performs throughout the country and is described in a newspaper article as a "hitchhiker, storyteller, poet, didgeridoo player and juggler in strange places."
