The Catch It Quick Juggling Co. is in its eleventh year of juggling shows in northern and central California. Michael Taylor, the full-time organizer of the troupe, says the group did 80 school shows last year, as well as numerous festivals. He is joined for double or triple appearances by part-timers Daryl Kuster, Andrew Hiller and Nym M.K. Nevarez. Original member Si Bazis has moved on to Hawaii. Among their routines are double-dutch jump rope juggling, which Taylor learned at the IJA festival in Denver, and "seasonal vegetables and flaming zucchinis." Look for them this season at the following festivals, the Boatnik Festival in Grants Pass, Ore. May 23-25; the Huck Finn Jubilee in Victorville, Calif., June 19-21; and the Interstate Fair in Spokane, Wash., Sept. 11-20.

Lovell Buchanan will be performing again this summer under his tent as Professor Tomfoolery at Willow Valley Resorts near Lancaster, Penn. His act includes juggling, magic and a lot of audience participation comedy. Buchanan graduated from La Crosse University with a major in, naturally, clowning.

 

Dick Franco and his daughter, Noelle, were featured on the Paul Daniels TV show in England. Dick did four balls, Noelle did scarves, then they did diabolos together. The entire Franco Family, Dick, Carline and Noelle, did a 30 minute comedy juggling act last winter at Magic Island in Houston. It included balls, rings, clubs, a bowling ball, six scarves by Noelle, ping pong balls from Dick, a two-person two-diabolo routine, Noelle's devil sticking and Dick's three chain saws. During one show they introduced long-time fellow entertainer Bob Blau, a local who came to see the show. Blau is to be featured in an article on page 86 of the February-March issue of the AARP's "Modern Maturity" magazine.

 

The National Association of Campus Activities (NACA) national convention in Dallas in February featured Daniel Rosen as a Mainstage Alternate entertainer and Jonathan Austin as a Roving Artist. Mark Nizer was nominated for an award in the novelty/variety division for one of the organization's Campus Entertainment Awards. The entertainers at NACA events are competitively chosen and highly prized positions, since more than 2,000 entertainment buyers from campuses all over the country gather to view the talent and decide who to hire during the coming year.

 

Doug and Penny Saunders, Charles Stron, Bill Witter, Tom Bean and Tim St. John, along with a score of clowns and other entertainers, performed for more than 2,000 mayors and city officials from all over the country gathered at the Mirage Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.

 

Scott Johnson of Pittsburg recently visited Las Vegas and sat with Anthony Gatto's mother, Barbara Gatto, while watching Anthony perform at the Sahara Hotel and Casino. Johnson headed back to Pittsburg in time to join the Three Rivers Juggling Festival at Carnegie Mellon University.
