Affiliates We
welcome two new affiliates in this report - The Flaming River
Jugglers and the
N.C. State University Jugglers.
Also,
I received the following report from one of our helpers, John
Phipps. He agreed to look into getting the IJA into some of the
major nationally televised parades to help boost our visibility and
prestige. Here's what he found...
"I
made a few phone calls, talked to a number of people and ran into
mostly dead ends. First I called the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.
They need a proposal. If they like it, they set up some sort of
review by tape or audition.
"Well,
on to the Rose Bowl Parade. 'Bands, floats and equestrian units
only, please.' Well, maybe the IJA House Band could practice a bit
more. Or have you ever thought of juggling on horseback as a new IJA
activity? Seriously, the float builders sometimes request
out-walkers, and I got the IJA on their list as possible
outwalkers who would juggle.
"Next
I called the Fiesta Bowl Parade. 'Third time's the charm!' comes to
mind. Or was it 'Three strikes and you're out?' The Fiesta has an
application, and it won't be available until May Or June. I'm on the
list to get an application, so there may be a possibility. Now all
we need to do is decide what to put on the application! If you have
any ideas, give me a call.
Also, let me know if you've ever juggled in a parade, and what the experience was like."
