THE
RECORDS VAULT by
Steven M. Salberg, Director
IJA
HALL OF JUGGLING RECORDS Baltimore
was a kick, and gave rise to a couple of big questions: Is it true
that after having to stand out in the sun for 2 hours, the event has
been renamed "The Big Throw-up"; What is an "IJA Open
Stage"; What the heck is "Plunger flipping"; Will
Russian Immigration allow Sergei to keep his Peoples Choice award?
On
Saturday afternoon at Field Day, we succeeded in setting a new
Guinness World Record for the Big-Toss Up (most objects juggled
simultaneously). The old record was set at the Purchase convention
in 1983 with 476 Jugglers - 1,867 Objects.
We
almost didn't make it this year.
With
about 15 minutes to go, we were some 100 jugglers short of the
record. While everyone sat -juggled-sweated-cursed on the field, we
sent runners into every comer of the building looking for wayward
jugglers. It took a while, but after all is said and done we ended
up with 524 people juggling 1,997 objects. That's the new record,
Hon! Congratulations and thanks to everyone who participated.
Special thanks to the judges who gave their time to qualify every
single juggler.
On
Saturday evening, we had the debut of the IJA Hall of Juggling
Records event. Records were set in many categories, some traditional
-- some decidedly un-traditional. A lot of people got into the act
and made it a big success. My personal thanks to everyone for their
participation and patience. Following is a listing of the new
records that were set at the convention and some that have been
submitted since the last issue. Remember... you can submit your own
new records, or challenge existing ones. I can be contacted at the
address given at the end for further information.
