MINUTES FROM IJA BOARD MEETING CONFERENCE CALL
October 26, 1999
Present: Braidy Brown, Richard Dingman, Art Jennings,
Sam Kilbourn, Bud Markowitz, Ginny Rose, Perry Rubenfeld, Norman Schniederman,
Steve Salberg, Walter Szeezil.
1. Braidy Brown reported regarding
a. The resignation from the Board submitted by Ken Benge,
effective September 17, 1999.
b. 2500 juggling balls . . . .
c. Archival materials received from the family of Harry
Lind . . .
2. The Board voted unanimously to table discussion of
Ken's seat on the Board.
3. The Board voted unanimously to authorize use of the
IJA corporate logo by affiliates only if preceded by the words "Affiliate
of".
4. Norman reported a current cash account of $69,000;
a 23% increase in membership; a 42% decrease in expenses; that the 1999
Festival made a profit; that the penalties received from Stan Allen and
Associates for late magazines and the production of the roster by the IJA,
nstead of Stan Allen have contributed to an okay current financial position;
current Life Member Fund is $77,000; and, Archive Fund is $31,000.
5. Richard reported current membership at approximately
2300; Roster to be out by approximately Thanksgiving; and, 99 videos have
been ordered and shipped.
6. Ginny reported that the 2000 Festival will be in Montreal
(the only remaining available site) at the University of Quebec at Montreal
from August 1 through August 5; a downtown campus in old Montreal with
air conditioned gym the size of our site at the Hacienda Hotel in Las Vegas,
with great security including a turnstile, approximately 200 dorm rooms,
50 hotel rooms at $60 Canadian ($40 US) for 1 double bed, $70 Canadian
($48 US) for 2 double beds (we had a turnout of 762 for the 1992 Montreal
festival); and that she is looking now for a 2001 Festival site.
7. Walter reported on the continuing Board discussion
regarding the Life Member Program and after lengthy discussion the Board
voted 6 to 1 to adopt the following resolution:
"To terminate the IJA Life Membership Program as of December
31, 1999, as follows:
OPTION 1. Life Members enrolled in the program prior
to January 1, 1988, shall each receive one additional year's dues in the
IJA, and shall begin paying regular dues on January 1, 2001.
Life Members enrolled in the program after January 1,
1988, shall receive two additional years' dues in the IJA, and shall begin
paying dues on January 1, 2002.
OPTION 2. Life Members that are inclined to so do,
may elect to begin paying dues as of January 1, 2000.
6. Perry reported on various letters received by the Insider.
7. Steve reported on the need to get the Bylaws updated
and posted.
