5. REPORTS:

2010 Fest (Kim Laird)... Things have been quiet on the festival planning front over the past month. I have been working with Keith Nelson to get travel plans for the CoS/Farewell Show performers confirmed so that I can make their flight and room reservations within the next few weeks.

Keith met with Tuan Le, one of the IJA award recipients, and discussed him performing as part of the Farewell Show. I have sent correspondence to the manager of Tuan's Cirque show asking for his release and allowing him to perform at the IJA. Keith has also spoken with Nino and his son, Romano, and feels they will also work in the shows. All are interested in performing!

In addition to Kris Kremo, confirmed performers for Cascade of Stars are: Jochen Schell, The Flash, Brad Weston, and Joelle Huguenin.

I am very close to confirming the parliamentarian for the AGM. That will be completed by our next board meeting. Other little details like volunteer gifts, green room arrangements, printing for festival booklets, etc. are in process now and will also be completed/confirmed by April's meeting.

We have one roadblock which is proving to be insurmountable... the internet. The Nugget Convention Services quoted us a price of $195/day for one internet connection for the registration table which we knew when the budget was created. They also quoted $50 per day per person for each additional wi-fi service. Mike Sullivan and I had a phone conference with Joe Sandusky (our convention contact) at the Nugget and did not get very many answers as to why the internet is so extraordinarily expensive. He then put us in touch with the owner of Hotel Internet Services, Gary Patrick. Gary explained to me that these prices are very much in line with prices being charged throughout the casino convention community. In an email, Gary did give the IJA a special discount rate for up to 50 wi-fi users per day. His price break is as follows:
Registration line = $195 per day
Attendee Convention Use Passes
(In existing Convention Hotspot areas)
50 daily access code passes = $19.99 per day each = 999 per day
75 daily access code passes = $18.99 per day each = 1424 per day
100 daily access code passes = $17.99 per day each = 1799 per day
150 daily access code passes = $16.99 per day each = 2548 per day
200 daily access code passes = $14.99 per day each = 2998 per day
250 daily access code passes = $12.99 per day each = 3247 per day
300+ daily access code passes = $10.99 per day each = 3297 per day

Mike and I are preparing a response to this offer and will be back in touch with Gary once Mike returns from his trip. Needless to say, $6,000 for the week for our members to have wi-fi is just not an option for the IJA.

Todd Strong has presented a proposal to the board and board plus outlining college graduate credits available at the IJA festival in Sparks. I have sent him many questions thus far. As I stated in one of my responses to him, I feel something of this magnitude requires board approval. I have included his proposal in an attachment and have included a motion to discuss this program and vote on it.

The United Airlines discount package would end up costing more than paying for tickets on other carriers through websites like Orbitz.

All of the award winners have been contacted and all of them will all be at the festival.

Financial (Kevin McBeth & Holly Greeley)... 990 form is still unavailable. Financial summary of 2009 is being prepared for the e-newsletter. 990 deadline is May 15, not April 15.

Store (Sandy Brown & Kevin McBeth)... fest registration is working well, older magazines are going to be added back to the store.

Membership (Marilyn Sullivan & Jim Maxwell)...
# of records 1420
# of members 1733
# lifetime members 280
# youth members 83
# families 218
# registered for festival 22
# of recruiters for 3/15 membership drive drawing 14 (as of 3/10)

Membership Drive (Kim Laird)... There are 15 IJA members who brought new people into the IJA over the last month! Those 15 were part of a drawing online which took place on March 15 at 3pm eastern time. The prize winners for the March 15th drawing are:
1. set of 6 "classic" issues of JUGGLE...Joan Nichols
2. IJA DVD... David Heart
3. past World Juggling Day T-Shirt... Carly Chamberlain

An email will be sent by the end of March to push the membership drive more. The spring juggling fest season on the east coast begins in March so I am hoping that more juggling fests means more memberships coming in for the drive.

Education (Kevin Axtell)...

Marketing/Promotions (Thom Wall)... There are 5 entries in the YouTube tutorial contest. Several others have said that they will also participate. The current entries are high quality. Fire Mecca is showing interest in the Vendor Discount program and could be very helpful in drawing in the west cost spinning crowd.
