Shows & Championships

The 2011 IJA Festival features five nights of shows and championship competitions!

That’s a full week of amazing performances to take in, starting out with a first-ever public Benefit Show. Read on for all the details on a spectacular lineup of shows and championships slated for our week in Rochester.

Starting the week on Tuesday night, you can buy a separate ticket for the IJA Benefit Show, “Celebrate the Joy,” with all proceeds going to the Boys & Girls Club of Rochester. Watch some great jugglers step onto the Presentation Hall stage to help raise funds for this wonderful local charity, in a first-ever ticketed public fundraiser put on by the IJA. IJA Benefit Show producer Bill Barr has brought together a great cast of performers for this special show, and it makes a great way to kick off your festival week while at the same time helping a very deserving local charity in our host city of Rochester.

Since the Tuesday night show is a benefit for the local Boys & Girls Club, tickets are being sold primarily to the public community in Rochester by adult volunteers for the Boys & Girls Club, with all ticket proceeds benefitting the local charity.

If you’d like to attend this “extra” show to kick off your week in Rochester, please note that tickets for the Tuesday night “Celebrate the Joy” benefit show are not included in festival package plans. A limited number of tickets are available to jugglers registering in advance for the festival, and we expect to sell out quickly, so please register and buy your tickets to “Celebrate the Joy” early!

Here's a quick look at the quality and variety of acts you can expect in the "Celebrate the Joy!" show, with footage from last year's benefit show for the Boys and Girls Club of Truckee Meadows, NV.

Wednesday night’s Welcome Show will be a special performance by Playing By Air. Featuring Michael Karas, Ted Joblin and Jacob Weiss, Playing By Air electrified the 2010 festival audience in Sparks during the Taste of Vaudeville! show. Since last year’s fest, the trio has been inventing, rehearsing and performing everywhere from The White House to the NYC International Fringe Festival. This year they’ll have an entire evening to showcase their wildly inventive brand of juggling, comedy and amazing stunts in a full-length show.

Thursday night’s excitement starts out with the Youth Showcase, an hour-long show that puts the world’s best young jugglers into the spotlight in a non-competitive setting in front of an appreciative audience. For information on being in the Showcase, contact show producer Pam Hamilton at . Stage time is limited, so sign up early!

Then stay for the Juniors Championships, where more young jugglers will be competing for IJA Gold. Every year, astounding young jugglers from all over the world come to the IJA Juniors stage and wow the judges with stupefying new tricks. Don’t miss this year’s sensational newcomers as they compete against their peers for the IJA Gold Medal.

Individuals and Teams Championships competitors take the stage on Friday night. Be there as the top jugglers from all over the world vie for IJA medals in Individuals and Teams categories in a night that’s always filled with excitement and astounding juggling.

The festival winds up with the Cascade of Stars show on Saturday night, focusing the brightest lights of the juggling world onto the Presentation Hall stage. Directed by Dan Holzman and with more than a dozen featured performers slated to appear, the 2011 Cascade of Stars will bring a dazzling highlight finish to the festival week. Eric Buss will MC a night of stunning performances you’ll be talking about for years to come.

Throughout the week, there will be plenty to watch in the gym and in the Auditorium during the day, where jugglers will show off their best tricks in additional competitive events like the North American Kendama Open, Numbers Championships, Joggling Championships, a first-ever Busking Competition, the Individual Prop Competition, XJuggling, Club Renegade and the Games of the IJA.
